Directors of the company, Alex and Annette Murray, established Alex Murray Construction in 1990.

Alex Murray Construction Ltd is one of the largest family run building contractors in the Western Isles. We are based in our centrally located island road offices. For over ten years we have been delivering solutions to meet the needs of clients. Our experience, expertise and resources, combined with our teamwork approach, have allowed us to build up a proven track record.

Alex Murray Construction has been building on success after success since 1980. This is an ever-changing and volatile industry, but remaining constant are our client’s needs for the highest quality, the lowest costs, the utmost safety and all in the quickest time. By working one to one and in partnership with the client Alex Murray Construction succeeds.

The Company operates a fleet of twenty vehicles including vans, cars, pickups, lorries and general heavy plant.

We presently employ approximately 45 operatives including joiners, bricklayers, slaters & roughcasters, painters & decorators, labourers, and apprentices in joinery, bricklaying and painting & decorating. Office staff include the Directors Alex & Annette Murray, Gary Wood the Quantity Surveyor, lain Morrison the Manager for Health, Safety, Quality & Environment and Main Maclennan Accounts Assistant. Most of the employees that were recruited in 1997 and 1998 when the company started to grow are still with us and work as a dedicated team. Since 1997 the company has employed 17 apprentices many of which are now time served and still with the company. Investor In People status was achieved in April 2001.
